It's an exciting place for gay men but queer women can't say the same. Slash has become a safe haven for straight girls to dance without fear of straight men but queer women are far and few between. Lesbians travel in pairs and stay close once they're in the club. It's wonderful to see a queer club in Baton Rouge considering how conservative the area is, but Splash has a long way to go before I'd consider it a Queer space.

Splash is one of the only Gay Clubs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It's located in a poor area of town. The walk from the gravel parking lot and around the building to the glowing rainbow door is a treacherous one. Once you're inside a seasoned drag queen welcomes you to check your ID and kindly takes a few dollars off you as you enter the club. The environment reminds me of the a club you'd find in Star Trek. There's lots of fog, lazer lights, and wild beings letting loose on the dance floor. As the bass tears through the air the cement blocks bip and bop along side the people. Splash is extremely close to the Louisiana State University (LSU) campus so the population consists of LSU sorority girls with their best gay friends and dolled up drag queens of all ages.

Politics of Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a predominately conservative area.
